Byron Wood Academy is fortunate to have excellent grounds and a good size hall in which to enjoy our PE and sport. This is a strength, both as part of the curriculum and in extended learning opportunities.
The children have many opportunities to learn new physical skills and games and to take part in sports festivals and also competitive sport. Byron Wood Academy are active members of the Arches School Sport Partnership and Sheffield Federation for School Sport collaborating with some of our local schools enjoying competitions together. The school has competed in athletics, netball, basketball, football, dance, handball, orienteering, tag rugby, swimming and cricket.
At Byron Wood we have also created a community link with Sheffield United Football Club, who come into school supporting teachers to deliver PE lessons and run an after school club. Sheffield United have also delivered their Move to Learn programme in school teaching children how to lead healthy lifestyles and develop their physical literacy.
In July 2014, we were awarded the Sainsbury’s School Games Bronze Kitemark, in recognition of the school’s commitment to PE and sport. Our school has enhanced provision as a direct result of the Government PE and Sport additional funding grant.
